Each year since 2006 we have gathered in a forest to pay homage to our humble, rather unlikely beginnings as rabble-rousers in the cycling industry. Boggs Mountain is the place where Bike Monkey popped into existence out of seemingly nowhere like some new form of matter. If we are the result of atoms being smashed together it would make more sense than any alternative. We came from nothing.
Irregardless of any actual meaning to our existence, we are going to raise the shit out of these pines. And we will start by firing up the retro wayback-machine. There's a trove of weapons-grade celebration techniques waiting to be tuned with our modern technology and powers we've amassed over the last two decades. We will start with one that's been amiss for some time:
The 3-day multi-faceted "Funduro" of yore makes its return to Boggs after a 10-year hiatus. With so much experience under our belt now we feel quite certain we'll be delivering this one on something with disco lights.
On Friday afternoon, May 2nd, we host the return of the Funduro hill climb. The race will be open to all, and features a 4 mile, 1,089' ascent to the top of Karen's Trail. It's over 2-Miles longer than the former edition, and it will feel like a proper challenge.
You might expect us to say "nothing new here," but you'd be wrong. This year's event will feature a longer, faster, more creative race course.
LONGER: We added 2.1 Miles and maintained the same amount of elevation gain by eliminating the grueling climb up Road 200. As it shakes out, with the additional distance we've been able to maintain the same total elevation gain per lap. That's right!... We've got a longer course with zero additional elevation!
MID RACE STATUS CHECK: At almost exactly the half-way mark on every lap, competitors swing back through the start/finish village for encouragement and high fives!
FIGURE 8: This year's course features a figure-8 loop where race traffic crosses paths (safely) at miles 6 and 9.
Our 20th year anniversary course features some great changes, and additions that will double the fun.
If intent holds, the Super-D will shape up to be one of the most inventive races we've yet concocted at Boggs Demonstration State Forest, and it won't be what you're expecting. Don't worry about it -- you'll already be signed up...
You do not have to register for each of these Funduro components separately. While strictly optional, they're included with your entry to the Boggs 8 hour race at no additional charge, and will be celebrated and awareded just like any other race! All you have to do is show up at the start line. The 8 hour race is what you came for, but we're tossing these highly entertaining side dishes in for the Fun-duro.
We've re-worked our race categories, and now have Para-Athlete designations, 60+ and 70+ grown-up categories for both men, women, and non-binary. However we have also paired some stuff down: there is no longer a single-speed relay category option. If you're racing with 1 gear, your option is solo.
Gerard's Paella will return to the party in 2025. Your post-race meal will be a throw-back highlight of this coming year's race! You've been quite literally begging for it since it vanished almost a decade ago. We're gonna make it happen.
Register before October 1st, and your entry includes your commemorative race t-shirt at no additional cost! Register after October 1st, and you can still add a race shirt, but for a fee.
